What's new?
The new things on the site this month are in response to feedback from users of The People in Dairy website.
New things in the Live Library
How people issues are being managed on real farms
See how other dairy farmers are managing their people issues. Three farms are currently featured on the website:
- south-west Victorian dairy farmers Neil and Rebecca Dickson’s 520-cow farm, run with the help of three full-time staff and two casuals.
- Chris and Charmaine Bagot’s 350-cow farm in West Gippsland run with one full-time and one part-time employee.
- Gippsland dairy farmers Michael and Michelle Axford’s 245-cow split-calving herd.
Their stories include good tips on retaining staff, time management and quad bike safety.
We will continue to add to these practical examples – please let us know if you have a story to tell! Contact us

All the industrial laws for each state in one place
In September we created a section in the Live Library to help make it easier to find the industrial laws surrounding conditions of employment in your state.
At that time only the resources for South Australia were available. You can now access these resources for the other states.

Diploma of Business (Human Resources) - Dairy
If you employ people on a dairy farm or are interested in giving advice on people management issues on dairy farms this could be the course for you. For information about the course see the projects page.
The first group of dairy advisers and farmers to enrol in the Diploma have just completed their last unit. Here’s what they said about the course:
“Generally people want to be good employers, but are not sure how to do it. This course is helping clarify that issue.”
“The course has provided me with new insights into tackling issues on-farm. This diploma will give me the processes to work with farming families to identify work/life balance and to change what is needed.”
“The course makes people aware of the issues and how to develop strategies to deal with them, not just single cases. It provides opportunities to improve how we engage with others.”
Enrolments for next year are now being taken. The first unit on Recruitment, Selection and Induction will be held on 16th -18th February 2009.
